Very few people pronounce Kyle Rasche’s last name correctly. It rhymes with “Posh-ee” but with an R. Try it. Now put more emphasis on the RAH than the SHEE. RAH-shee. Rasche. Kyle Rasche. There. See? Not so hard.
At risk of missing out on the always enjoyable experience of being called “Rash” on live radio, Kyle Rasche decided on a moniker – Chain of Lakes – named after the swimming holes surrounding the family cabin in northern Michigan. Now 10 years and four records in, his Chain of Lakes have aged well, supplying the Midwest with earnest, atmospheric, and soulful songs that are memorable and flowing.
Existing sonically somewhere between here and a world where the Beach Boys harmonize Conor Oberst songs around an acoustic guitar, Rasche’s band of seasoned West Michigan pros – Mat Churchill (bass), Dana Jackson (vocals), Eric Ellis (drum kit), and Kyle VanderVeen (guitars) – have each become indispensable “Lakes” in their own right.
Simply put, Kyle Rasche has carved his place as one of West Michigan’s most dependable songsmiths of the poetic, soul-bearing sort… the Chain of Lakes are where he takes the songs to imbibe his own batch of harmony; known to evoke a soaring euphoria and a bit of adrenaline at the same time.
