Sara Luneack grew up in Alma, Michigan and loved music from a young age. Her first musical memory is that of the old organ that sat in her house. As a toddler she loved to experiment with the keys and the stops, though she couldn’t reach the pedals. Sara also adored music class in 1st grade and would stay after to talk with the teacher about composers. She began taking piano in first grade, and auditioned for her first musical role, the role of Molly in Annie¸ and received it.
From there Sara was swept into the world of the theater, and spent long hours there acting in shows like Oklahoma, Brigadoon, Alice in Wonderland (Alice), South Pacific, The Music Man, The Diary of Anne Frank (Anne), Mister Angel (Little Angel), and A Gershwin Review, as well as in numerous summer workshops.
In the meantime she also loved children’s choir at church and participated in talent shows at school. She remembers her first venture into composing when she was nine with a song called “Frolicking Butterflies” when her teacher gave her an assignment compose an original song. It was to be the first of much original music that would flow from Sara’s pen and be one of her most treasured abilities.
In high school Sara picked up the guitar and began writing with it as well. She began recording in her first year at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and majored in music. Her influences include Sarah McLachlan, Nicole Nordemann, Ginny Owens, Paula Cole, Jewel, Jeff Buckley, Aretha Franklin, Eva Cassidy, Ella Fitzgerald, and Fiona Apple. In March of 2004 Sara released her freshman album In the Wind. In August of 2004, a song off the release called “More than Just Enough” attracted the attention of Bill Hybels, pastor of Willow Creek Church. Sara was invited to perform the song at the close of Willow Creek’s annual leadership conference, The Summit. Since then, Sara continues to tour and give concerts with her band, compose, and record. She currently resides in Holland, Michigan, and leads worship at Resurrection Life Church in Grand Haven, and travels to perform whenever she can.
